May 2, 2025- Today's Rockhounding Friday led to Akron Falls Park in Akron, NY.
The primary waterfall drops from the Onondaga Limestone Escarpment. In contrast, Murder Creek Canyon had fewer rocky areas and less visible bedrock than I anticipated. I'm wondering if past glacial activity, through erosion and deposition, influenced this?
Onondaga LimestoneĀ
Akron Dolostone (very wet and massive)
Camillus Shale (very brittle)
This triple outcrop was found just below Skyline Drive going down the Onondaga Escarpment (in back of the basketball courts on Parkview Drive.
Aside from the waterfall, the only bedrock I actually found exposed in Murder Creek Canyon was a section of very fragile and brittle Camillus Shale, located about halfway up.
