Field Observation – January 8, 2026
Creation Walk Nature Trail in Marilla, NY
The trail’s terrain is primarily glaciated upland shale, scattered with small to medium-sized glacial erratics and till. As I approached Little Buffalo Creek, I noted a thin layer of what appears to be West River Shale.
The most interesting feature is the contact point where the shale meets Genundewa Limestone; this transition has created a small waterfall, with several other cascades located toward the end of the park.
Because some areas were still obscured, I plan to return this spring once the snow cover has fully cleared to conduct a more detailed survey of the site.
